Today is March 24th! And Spring NovelRama 2017 has begun! WOOOT!

If you're still on the fence - take an hour.
Set up snacks and meals for the day.
Sort kids, pets, or anyone else you're responsible for.
Loosely outline 5 chapters...

...AND GO!!!!!!

The goal today is 6250 words. That will put you on track to hit 25k by end of day Monday!

I also posted a video over on the FB page - the page is public. There's nothing needed to view it. RMFW members will be posting throughout the weekend, so keep an eye out for the Live notification.

Good Luck!!!!!!

Do flashbacks bog your story down?
How long is too long for a flashback?
Does a flashback add depth to your character?
How early is too early for a flashback?

If you've asked yourself any of these questions, then the upcoming online class, Been There Done That: Writing Effective Flashbacks taught by Karen Lin is the class for you.

Date : March 12-25, 2017
Cost: Members: $25, Non-Members: $30

Hello All!

Welcome to the Spring 2017 NovelRama event! This is where you will shut yourself into your writing cave, and come out 4 days later with 25k words in hand.

That's it. That's the whole deal. We created this event so that we, your fellow writers, would have Good Reason to allow ourselves to write for Four Whole Days.

So head over to the Facebook Event Page:

That's where we'll be that entire weekend. You can post looking for inspiration, brainstorming, if you need get out of the house for an hour - whatever.

Can't wait to see everyone!

And if you have questions, feel free to email me at

Events / A Note From Our RMFW President
« Last post by Eric Stallsworth - Moderator on December 06, 2016, 04:53:20 PM »
Hi everyone,

If you haven’t yet voted, please do so by this Friday. If you have any questions regarding the ballot, see the home page of the website:  You can also email me or other board members with questions:  Our tech people and election committee members have worked hard to make this an easy process for you all. Thank you Wendy Howard, Vicki Rubin, Christine Jorgensen and Susan Smith.

Although we only have one person running for Vice President, your vote is a vote of confidence, so mark your ballot for Sheri Duff. The other item on the ballot is to pass an Amendment to our Bylaws. This Amendment brings us into compliance with the State of Colorado and it is the first hurdle in changing our non-profit status from being a 501(c)(6) to a 501(c)(3), which will save us money in sales taxes, allow donors to write off contributions to RMFW on their personal taxes, and will allow us to apply for grants that we are not now eligible for. Getting our non-profit status changed is something the board has been working on for years. We’re hoping it will finally come to fruition in 2017. We will keep you all informed as we work on this big project.

The annual holiday parties are this Saturday! There is more information in emails and on the website. We hope to see many of you there!

6:30 PM to 8:30 PM
4280 Tennyson St., Denver, CO 80212

The Western Slope party follows the WS program this Saturday:
WESTERN SLOPE FREE PROGRAM and HOLIDAY PARTY – more info on the website
Business Incubator Center – 2591 Legacy Way, Grand Junction

One more item. On January 21st, we will hold our Annual Meeting at the Sam Gary Branch of the Denver Public Library, 2961 Roslyn Street in the Stapleton area. Membership will not be voting on any issues however we will review annual reports from the committees that serve Rocky Mountain Fiction Writers. This would be a chance for members to get to know your committee chairs and to understand what goes into making RMFW run. We will publish the annual committee and financial reports on the website and will have links to those reports in emails and in the newsletter. Directly following the annual meeting, we will hold our January board meeting. Anyone who wants to stay to observe the board in action is welcome.

Happy holidays! Write On!

Anatomy of An Edit – From 1st Draft to Submission

This presentation is a 10-step road map any writer can follow from their novel’s first draft (their first or their twenty-first project!) to submission to agents or editors. It touches on "big picture" items like character arc, plot, pacing, and theme. Suggestions for critique partners/groups and free resources for writers are included. It may be helpful to writers who are active critique partners and want to take their group to the next level.
